Mom's Kitchen: Before & After

I'm (slowly) getting back into my blogging routine after taking some time off for the holidays, immediately followed up with taking a break to care for sick kiddos. We've all had a nasty cold, and my 2 year-old got hit with the bad cold, plus the flu and an ear infection. Talk about no fun! Anyway, I hope to get back into a regular schedule very soon. Now for the fun stuff. We recently took a trip up to Indiana to visit my family for Christmas, and we stayed at my mom and step-dad's house. Not too long ago, they renovated their kitchen, so I thought I'd snap a few shots and share before and after photos with you. It's always fun to see a room transformation.

Here it is Before, in all it's 80's cabinet glory. (This was taken during a wall demo - they added a cut-out looking into the dining area.):

Kitchen "Before"

And here it is After. Big change, right?

Kitchen Transformation: "After"

They replaced the original red laminate counter tops with granite (Six Square is the brand and "Giallo Ornamental" is the finish), and the old laminate cabinets were replaced with pretty creamy off-white ones. The color is "Vanilla Latte Glaze" and they are also made by Six Square. They added an undermount sink and brushed nickel hardware. The backsplash is Pacific Sand Universal Mosaic tile.

They have plans to add a darker wood floor and a window valance in the future.

Here is a view of the other end of the kitchen, which is where the banquette (built by my step-dad) is located. I've posted about it before, here

Banquette

Thanks, Mom, for letting me (and my camera) invade your kitchen!

Hope you are all staying healthy this season. Do you have plans to transform any rooms in 2013?

  10. It's so nice to see that people are finally moving away from those soooo dark cherry cabinets that were all the rage not too long ago. The kitchen looks so bright and happy.

  11. Your mom’s kitchen looks clean and fresh. The previous one may seem more sophisticated, but the present kitchen defines clarity. The white coat matched well with the stainless steel appliances. Anyhow, the banquette is what I like the most. I feel like getting one for my own kitchen. It's great to create wonderful conversations with the other members of the family there.
